When Dennis Englewood sings his relevant version of the 10cc tune, which he calls it a breakup song, he means, "I'm a brokenhearted man without my wife and family due to family issues and concerns when suffering from the tortures of the memory of a lost love while in need of somebody new as a fiancée to be my bride." As Dennis' backing vocalist Joyce Berry once said, "I don't like the be-quiet-big-boys-don't-cry mid-section, because that part in the middle makes no kind of sense and every time I hear the echoed repetitive phrase, "Big boys don't cry " over and over again like a broken record, to me, it gets annoying!, I'd rather leave it out!"

The 10cc original from 1975 is mainly all about a man denying he's in love, but deceiving himself.

American soul singer and backing vocalist Dennis Englewood said "For my soul ballad remake of the 10cc tune, "I'm Not In Love" I would ask the horn players from The Thom Bell Orchestra to play the Synclavier choir parts to make it more straightforward in order to avoid the synthesizers that drive me up the wall and also in order to make it less jazzy, we wanted to do it in the key of E, modulating to the G towards the end of the song to give it our own take. When I sing the line, 'I'm Not In Love', that means I'm hurt, depressed at heart, lonely with no love, and isolated without my wife and family due to family issues when suffering the tortures of the memory of a lost love while in need of somebody new as a fiancee to be my bride , which is the opposite of the other 'I'm Not In Love' that is mainly all about a man lying to himself saying he is not in love".

    Here is the story:

This song incorporated the backing of a large wordless choir, which in reality was the group's voices. It was painstakingly built up from chord loops and multi tracks: some 256 vocal dubs were required to complete the lush harmonies behind Eric Stewart's vocal.
The idea for the song came from Stewart saying to his wife that if he kept saying "I Love You" over and over, it wouldn't mean anything even though he did love her.
The whispered vocals of "Be quiet, big boys don't cry" came from the secretary of Strawberry Studios, Kathy Redfern.
The four members of 10cc had been on the British music scene for a while when they formed. Vocalist/guitarist Graham Gouldman was a former member of the Mockingbirds and had written hits for Jeff Beck, the Yardbirds, the Hollies and Herman's Hermits. Singer/guitarist Eric Stewart was a former member of Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, and vocalists/multi-instrumentalists Lol Creme and Kevin Godley were both highly regarded studio musicians.

They originally formed in 1970 as a session band known as Hotlegs, and had a surprise hit with "Neanderthal Man." They then signed to pop mogul Jonathan King's UK label and recorded 11 UK Top Ten hits, including two other #1s, "Rubber Bullets
" in 1973 and "Dreadlock Holiday" in 1978. Creme and Godley left the band by the time "Dreadlock Holiday" was recorded to concentrate on video production as well as developing the Gizmo, a guitar modification device they invented. They had one other US Top Ten hit in 1977, "The Things We Do For Love," which reached #5.

Other films that have used the song include:
    The Stud (1978)
    The Virgin Suicides (1999)
    Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999)
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004)
He's Just Not That Into You (2009)

Among the TV series to use it are:
    EastEnders
    That '70s Show
    The Office
    Veronica Mars

In 1975, Susan Dey starred in Cage Without a Key, a TV movie for CBS where she received top-billing for the first time in her career. She had previously appeared in another TV movie in 1973, Terror on the Beach, but in that project she was billed as a special guest star. Cage Without a Key was also Susan Dey's first social issue drama, a theme she would revisit frequently during her 25 year career.

In Cage Without a Key, Susan Dey portrays Valerie Smith, a 17 year old who gets caught up in a series of circumstances which spiral out of control. It all begins after she accepts a ride from a young man named Buddy Goleta (played by Sam Bottoms), a person that she does not know. The guy turns out to be a junkie and forces Susan Dey's character to take part in a liquor store robbery, which quickly goes wrong after the guy shoots a couple people and the police arrive.

Charged with taking part in the crime, Susan Dey must go to court. Luckily, she gets a young and intelligent public defender (played by Michael Brandon). Unluckily, Sam Bottoms character decides to lie on the stand and implicates her. Susan Dey is found guilty and sentenced to do time at San Marcos School for Girls, a rehabilitation center/prison for juvenile girls.

At San Marcos, Susan Dey finds herself the target of recruitment attempts by two warring cliques. She resists initially, but gradually gets worn down by the negative atmosphere of the place and eventually befriends a young black inmate named Tommy (played by Jonelle Allen). Meanwhile, her public defender Michael Brandon works to find a way to free the wrongly accused Susan Dey.

Cage Without a Key was written by Joanna Lee, who would also write Susan Dey's next TV movie, Mary Jane Harper Cried Last Night.

I'm not in love, so don't forget it It's just a silly phase I'm going through And just because I call you up Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made I'm not in love, no, no, it's because... I like to see you, but then again That doesn't mean you mean that much to me So if I call you, don't make a fuss Don't tell your friends about the two of us I'm not in love, no, no, it's because... I keep your picture upon the wall It hides a nasty stain that's lying there So don't you ask me to give it back I know you know it doesn't mean that much to me I'm not in love, no, no, it's because... Ooh, you'll wait a long time for me Ooh, you'll wait a long time Ooh, you'll wait a long time for me Ooh, you'll wait a long time (I'm not in love, so don't forget it) Ooh, it's just a silly phase I'm going through Oh, yes, it is (And just because I call you up) Don't get me wrong, Don't think you've got it made, ooh, no (I'm not in love, I'm not in love) I'm not in love, baby, no, no, it's just because Girl, it's all because we stand worlds apart
